About Us
The Alliance of Legal Document Assistant Professionals (ALDAP) was established by like-minded Legal Document Assistants (LDAs) with an impassioned desire to bring recognition and credibility to our chosen profession. ALDAP was incorporated on May 14, 2007 as a non-profit corporation, organized under California's Nonprofit Mutual Benefit Corporation Law.

We created ALDAP to offer experienced LDAs and dual-professional paralegal/LDAs a professional association that meets their needs by promoting the highest quality work product, absolute mastery of ethics, and regulatory compliance that is above reproach. Further, membership in ALDAP is only awarded upon successful completion of an exam, so ALDAP members enjoy a credential that distinguishes them from the pack: demonstrated commitment to ethical principles and proven command of the technical aspects of an LDA’s day-to-day practice.

ALDAP’s membership qualifications were designed with professionalism, code compliance, and exceptional competency in mind. To that end, candidates for membership in ALDAP must be a bonded and registered Legal Document Assistant in accordance with Business & Professions Code § 6400, et seq., meet the minimum education and experience required of paralegals (Bus. & Prof. Code § 6450, et seq.), pass a brief examination covering both ethics and LDA practice, and successfully complete a background check (this requirement is waived for anyone who holds a current Notary Commission, Real Estate License, is an Immigration Consultant registered with the Secretary of State of California, or is a Registered Process Server).

By establishing minimum paralegal education requirements, the association assures members of the public that the ALDAP member they entrust with their documents is on the cutting edge of new developments in the self-help legal movement. To join ALDAP, please visit our Members page.
